Currently, the phenomenon of post-traumatic stress disorder is very common among Ukrainians. Every year the number of people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder is constantly growing. According to WHO, about 70% of people in the world have experienced at least one potentially traumatic event during their lives, of which 5.6% may have PTSD. However, the real figures are most likely much higher. As we can see, the situation is not encouraging not only among adults, but also among young men and women. In this article, we will consider what causes post-traumatic stress disorder among students of Ukrainian higher education institutions and what manifestations it has. The purpose of the study is to scientifically study the features of post-traumatic stress disorder and ways to overcome it in students of higher education institutions. Nowadays, the problem of post-traumatic stress disorder is widely studied and many scientists are working on solving this problem. While reviewing the literature on this topic, we analyzed the works of V. Lysenko, O. Morozov, V. Omelyanovich, N. Tarabrina, O. Timchenko, S. Yakovenko, R. Voloshyn, L. Kitaev-Smyk, and many others. In general, the literature on this topic considers PTSD as a mental disorder. The research methods include the use of theoretical analysis of literature, synthesis, deduction, observation, questionnaires and psychodiagnostic methods. Empirical methods such as observation, comparison and measurement were used. A survey of students of Ukrainian universities was conducted. The study results indicate a high prevalence of PTSD symptoms, such as recurrent memories, emotional instability, and problems with concentration, among students who were directly or indirectly affected by military action, economic instability, or the loss of loved ones. It was found that the main risk factors are individual psychological characteristics, the level of social support and the nature of the traumatic experience. The practical significance of the study lies in the development of recommendations for the prevention and treatment of PTSD among university students. The results can be used in the work of psychologists, social workers and teachers to create a favorable educational environment.
