Анотація
У статті досліджено феномен мовної гри в межах кібермемів, зосереджено увагу на перекладацьких викликах та стратегіях відтворення цього явища з англійської на українську мову. Кібермеми розглядаються як компонент маніпуляції свідомістю та різновид онлайн-комунікації, де поєднуються мовна креативність, візуальність і культурна символіка. Мовна гра та креативність у застосуванні риторичних прийомів здебільшого використовуються для привернення уваги читачів. Експресивні засоби у кібермемах є потужним інструментом маніпуляції свідомістю, оскільки дозволяють не лише інформувати, а й активно впливати на думки, почуття та поведінку аудиторії. Їхнє використання сприяє передачі інформації й формуванню певних емоційних реакцій, впливу на сприйняття подій, людей чи явищ, а також нав’язуванню потрібних установок та оцінок. Авторами підкреслюється важливість врахування психологічних особливостей мовної гри при аналізі контенту кібермемів, виявленні джерел інформаційно-психологічного впливу на свідомість адресата та прогнозуванні наслідків такого впливу для особистості і соціальних процесів. Метою дослідження є виявлення типових форм мовної гри у мемах і аналіз способів їх перекладу. Матеріалом слугують автентичні англомовні меми та їх українські відповідники. Застосовано комплекс перекладацьких трансформацій: лексичну адаптацію, стилістичну компенсацію, синтаксичну перебудову та прагматичну корекцію. Теоретичне підґрунтя складають праці іноземних та українських учених. Зроблено висновок, що адекватне відтворення гумору в кібермемах можливе лише за умови креативного підходу до перекладу з урахуванням культурних і комунікативних особливостей, коли перекладач виступає співтворцем запланованого ефекту. Результати дослідження можуть бути корисними для перекладачів, що працюють із цифровими жанрами, медіатекстами та гумористичним контентом.
The article deals with the phenomenon of language play within the context of cybermemes, focusing on the challenges and strategies of its translation from English into Ukrainian. The study is grounded on the idea that cybermemes are a dynamic form of online communication where linguistic creativity intersects with visual and cultural elements. Language play and creativity in employing rhetorical devices are mainly used to draw readers’ attention. Expressive means in cyber memes are a powerful instrument to manipulate consciousness as they inform and actively influence the audience's thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Their use communicates the information and produces specific emotional reactions, affecting the perception of events, people, and phenomena and imposing necessary attitudes and evaluations. The authors emphasize the importance of the psychological peculiarities of language play in analyzing cybermemes, revealing the sources of informational and psychological impact on the addressee’s consciousness and predicting the consequences of such an impact on an individual and social process. The research aims to define the main types of language play used in memes and to analyse how they are preserved or transformed in translation. The analysis is based on authentic examples of English-language memes and their Ukrainian equivalents. It demonstrates that translating language play requires linguistic competence and a deep understanding of the cultural and pragmatic context when a translator co-creates the planned effect. The article applies a set of translation transformations, such as lexical adaptation, stylistic compensation, syntactic restructuring, and pragmatic adjustment. The theoretical framework includes the works of foreign and Ukrainian scholars. The paper concludes that creative, culturally adapted translation strategies are essential to retain the humorous and expressive effect of memes. The findings of the study may be relevant for translators working with digital discourse, media texts, and humour-oriented content.
