The article states the fact of the contradiction of musical education, characteristic of the modern stage of the society development, which consists in increasing the interest of the younger generation in music in general and almost complete absence of interset in singing. Development of musical culture and creativity among school students has been still the fundamental goal of music education. Success in solving the problems of musical and singing education of the younger generation is mainly conditioned by the quality of training future music teachers, their degree of mastery of both traditional and non-standard methods of working on a song. The aim of the article is to describe the content and ways of optimizing students’ training for choirmaster work with school students in the framework of teaching conducting (section – mastering the school song repertoire) and in the process of pedagogical practice at school. The author outlines the content of the standard of knowledge and skills (in the field of music and singing) which must be mastered by students by the end of primary school; and the criteria of selecting a vocal and choral repertoire for working with children; enumerates classical composers and contemporary authors of compositions for children; proves the importance of the artistic value of the folk song and its role in teaching school students. Modern approaches to organizing and conducting vocal and choral work with school students are presented. The content of the methods that activate the process of working on a song and the ways of its mastery by the students are described in detail. Considerable attention is paid to the disclosure of the content of the future teacher’s and choirmaster’s activity on the use of staging and theatralization of musical works in vocal and choral work. Further scientific research should be conducted in regards to the questions about the means of technological and methodological support for implementing practice-oriented, integrated and acmeological approaches in the educational process of the professional training of students – future choirmaster teachers.
