dc.description.abstractMedicinal and aromatic plants synthesize a wide range of bioactive secondary metabolites – such as essential oils, alkaloids, phenolics, and terpenoids – that form the basis of traditional medicine systems and modern pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries. In recent decades, growing global interest in natural products, coupled with concerns over synthetic chemicals and environmental sustainability, has renewed scientific and commercial attention toward medicinal and aromatic plants. The increasing challenges posed by climate change, land degradation, and water scarcity have further emphasized the importance of resilient plant species capable of thriving under marginal conditions. Many medicinal and aromatic plants are naturally adapted to arid and semi – arid environments, displaying unique morphological, physiological, and biochemical strategies that allow them to tolerate drought and other abiotic stresses while maintaining valuable phytochemical profiles. These characteristics make them promising candidates for sustainable agriculture, particularly in regions where conventional crop production is increasingly constrained. This book aims to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary overview of medicinal and aromatic plants, integrating botanical, agronomic, physiological, phytochemical, and socio – economic perspectives. The chapters address key topics including plant diversity and taxonomy, bioactive compounds and their medicinal relevance, cultivation and management practices, stress tolerance mechanisms, quality and yield relationships, and emerging approaches for sustainable production. Special emphasis is placed on species adapted to dry and semi – dry regions, reflecting the growing need for climate – resilient cropping systems. The content of this book is intended for a broad audience, researchers, extension specialists, and professionals working in agriculture, pharmacognosy, plant sciences, and natural product industries. It is our hope that this book will serve not only as a reference source but also as an inspiration for future research and innovation in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants, fostering collaboration between science, industry, and traditional knowledge systems.
dc.description.abstractЛікарські та ароматичні рослини синтезують широкий спектр біоактивних вторинних метаболітів, таких як ефірні олії, алкалоїди, фенольні сполуки та терпеноїди, які складають основу традиційних медичних систем та сучасної фармацевтичної, косметичної та харчової промисловості. В останні десятиліття зростаючий глобальний інтерес до натуральних продуктів, у поєднанні із занепокоєнням щодо синтетичних хімічних речовин та екологічної стійкості, відновив наукову та комерційну увагу до лікарських та ароматичних рослин. Зростаючі проблеми, спричинені зміною клімату, деградацією земель та дефіцитом води, ще більше підкреслили важливість стійких видів рослин, здатних процвітати в маргінальних умовах. Багато лікарських та ароматичних рослин природно адаптовані до посушливих та напівпосушливих середовищ, демонструючи унікальні морфологічні, фізіологічні та біохімічні стратегії, які дозволяють їм переносити посуху та інші абіотичні стреси, зберігаючи при цьому цінні фітохімічні профілі. Ці характеристики роблять їх перспективними кандидатами для сталого сільського господарства, особливо в регіонах, де виробництво традиційних сільськогосподарських культур дедалі більше обмежене. Ця книга має на меті надати всебічний та міждисциплінарний огляд лікарських та ароматичних рослин, інтегруючи ботанічні, агрономічні, фізіологічні, фітохімічні та соціально-економічні перспективи. У розділах розглядаються ключові теми, включаючи різноманітність та таксономію рослин, біоактивні сполуки та їхню медичну значущість, методи вирощування та управління, механізми стійкості до стресу, взаємозв'язки між якістю та врожайністю, а також нові підходи до сталого виробництва. Особливий акцент робиться на видах, адаптованих до сухих та напівпосушливих регіонів, що відображає зростаючу потребу в кліматично стійких системах вирощування культур. Зміст цієї книги призначений для широкої аудиторії, дослідників, фахівців з поширення знань та фахівців, що працюють у сільському господарстві, фармакогнозії, рослинництві та промисловості натуральних продуктів. Ми сподіваємося, що ця книга слугуватиме не лише довідковим джерелом, а й натхненням для майбутніх досліджень та інновацій у галузі лікарських та ароматичних рослин, сприяючи співпраці між наукою, промисловістю та традиційними системами знань.
