Зважаючи на необхідність проведення багаторівневого аналізу, методологію представлено на трьох рівнях: історичному, практичному та інституційному. Подано комплекс методів із обґрунтуванням доцільності їхнього застосування на означених рівнях.The article is devoted to the description of the methodology of comparative-pedagogical research of the development of physical education in the EU countries. The generalization of methodological approaches in the pedagogical study made it possible to distribute them into three main groups: basic general approaches that provide the corresponding quality of research in terms of compliance with the canons of educational research; paradigmatic approaches based on recognized concepts and theories that reveal various aspects of the social development of mankind; instrumental scientific approaches of a technological nature. The author has identified the following levels: the historical level, the purpose of which is to analyze the origin, formation and development of concepts of physical education in Europe; practical level, aimed at considering the specifics of the practical application of individual concepts; the institutional level focused on presenting the concepts of physical education in the EU member states at the angle of their institutional interactions and the role of world, European and national institutions in determining the prospects for their further development. In the study of the concepts of physical education at the historical level, the author has taken into account the theoretical basis, which in different periods prevailed in the research.
