Матеріали можуть зацікавити філологів, які досліджують розвиток англійськогї мови та її варіантів.The present paper dwells upon the linguistic aspect of Estuary English, which is approached by scholars differently. Some of them view it as a modern variant of pronunciation, while others believe it to be a new London-based dialect. So the aim of the present study is to outline some phonological features of Estuary English as one of the British dialects. In the result of the present study we conclude that the linguistic nature of Estuary English has the following characteristics: 1) the linguistic status of Estuary English has not been ultimately defined; 2) among relevant phonological characteristics we distinguish the glottal stop, Yod-coalescence, narrowing of diphthongs, substitution of velar nasal sounds by their alveolar variants. .ukдіалектфонолгічні особливостіEstuary Englishлінгвістичний статусdialectphonological peculiaritieslinguistic statusConferencePapers
