Проведений аналіз засвідчив, що фольклорні жанри представлено широко й багатогранно, що дозволяє формувати в учнів уявлення про скарбницю фольклору як естетичну цінність і джерело художньої літератури. Ознайомлення зі зразками фольклорних творів сприяє формуванню в школярів відомостей про історичне минуле України, життя, побут, звичаї, моральні цінності народу.The article analyzes the program requirements for the study of folklore in grades 5-9 of high school, their representation in textbooks of Ukrainian literature. On the agenda is the issue of updating school curricula in literature, where the main focus of the author is on the inclusion of works, the content of which is aimed at upbringing of a free, creative, spiritually rich person. This is facilitated by the study of folklore, as in the arena of national and cultural life of Ukraine arose and exacerbated key problems - the revival of national identity, the formation of national character, art and culture in general. The basic center of this holistic systemic unity is the idea of the representation and interaction of the three main components of national identity - historicity, ethnicity and spirituality. All these components are characteristic of oral folk art. The purpose of this article is to highlight the problem of studying folklore genres by students in grades 5-9 at the lessons of Ukrainian literature, the display of the topic in existing textbooks. To solve this problem, a set of research methods was used, such as: general scientific - to analyze the scientific literature related to research; analysis, synthesis and generalization of the scientific literature, the results obtained to formulate conclusions. The analysis showed that folklore genres are widely and multifaceted, which allows students to form an idea of the treasury of folklore as an aesthetic value and a source of fiction.
