Дається визначення понять «формальна», «неформальна» та «інформальна» освіта і навчання. Визначається значущість появи цих категорій у законодавчому полі України (зокрема в Законі України «Про освіту»). Характеризується використання формального, неформального та інформального навчання в таких проявах, як навчання протягом життя та «змішане навчання». Визначається значення інтеграції формального, неформального та інформального навчання в підвищенні ефективності навчання іноземним мовам.The article deals with the issue of formal, non-formal and informal learning. It gives the definitions of the concepts of "formal", "non-formal" and "informal" education and learning. The author stresses the significance of the emergence of these categories in the legislative field of Ukraine (in particular, in the Law of Ukraine "On Education"). The article characterizes the use of formal, non-formal and informal learning in such fields as life-long learning and "mixed (blended) learning". The significance of the integration of formal, non-formal and informal learning in improving the efficiency of teaching foreign languages is determined. Taking into account the definition of the concepts of "formal, non-formal and informal education" in the Law of Ukraine "On Education", it becomes possible these days to assert the existence of a certain national experience in the implementation of non- formal/informal educational models in the education system (out-of-school, school, higher, postgraduate, civic education (diverse activities of public organizations), and in school and students' self-government within the frameworks of the educational initiatives aimed at developing additional skills (computer and language courses, hobby groups, etc.). Recently, there has been a tendency towards convergence and complementarity between formal, non-formal and informal education, taking into account its innovative flexibility and openness of the latter, possible becomes transformation into formalized learning space (in teaching foreign languages as well) of technological achievements tested in the frameworks of informal educational systems. At the same time, there is a need in legislative regulation of the possibilities of lifelong education and learning in Ukraine, a need in European and international cooperation in the field of education, a need in exchange of experience, a need in interaction between state and non-governmental organizations, involved in education.
